How To Properly Remove Makeup

March 31, 2017

Hopefully, you’re removing your makeup each night so that it doesn’t stay on your face while you’re sleeping. Sleep time is a perfect time for the body to restore and regenerate itself, and it does this best when it doesn't have to worry about products clogging pores and keeping cells from breathing optimally.

As you go to remove your makeup each day, do you find that it’s hard to take off? Do you wash with soap and water, and still see mascara smudged on your eyes or lipstick caked on your lips? If so, follow these instructions for how to properly remove makeup:

Start with The Eyes

Start removing your makeup by taking off eye shadow, eye liner, and mascara. But, easy does it! Don’t press, pull, or tug on your eyes when trying to get makeup off. Simply use an organic cotton ball or pad moistened with coconut oil or other natural plant oil, and gently wipe across the eyes to begin removing makeup. You might need to do a couple passes of wiping with your cotton ball or pad (and, sometimes it helps to hold the cotton ball or pad on the eyes for 10 seconds before swiping). Keep removing eye makeup until it’s all gone or mostly gone, and then go to the next step.

Use a Natural Daily Cleanser

After you’ve removed all, or most of your eye makeup, you can wash your face with a natural daily cleanser. First, dampen your face with warm water. Then, apply a bit of plant-based cleanser to your hands along with a touch of warm water. Apply cleanser to your face and gently scrub for about 30 seconds. Remember to rub cleanser on your eyes, forehead, nose, cheeks, lips, and chin. Rinse cleanser off with warm water, and then gently wipe your face with a warm washcloth.

That’s it! That’s all you need to know when it comes to how to properly remove makeup. After removal, it’s time to dab your face dry with a soft washcloth. Don’t rub or scrub. Just let the cloth soak up the water and you’re good to start applying your facial serum.
