Top 10 Worst Skin Habits

March 31, 2017

If you don’t have the clear skin that you want, chances are, some bad habits are coming into play. Many of the worst things you do to your skin can be easily corrected, to give you nice healthy skin.

1. Using a Harsh Cleanser

You don’t need to use a harsh cleanser to wash your face, no matter what type of skin you have. Simply washing with a natural, plant-based cleanser is enough. You don’t want to strip your skin of protective oils or irritate it.

2. Exfoliating Roughly

It’s great to use an exfoliator to slough off dead skin, but don’t use anything that contains harmful ingredients or extra large granules. If you do, your face may end up red and damaged.

3. Not Moisturizing

You need to apply a moisturizer after you cleanse, even if you have oily skin. If you don’t, your face will lose moisture and be tight, or it will overcompensate for the dryness by producing excess oil.

4. Incorrectly Moisturizing

Even if you moisturize, you might notice your skin still isn’t what you want. You could be applying too little or too much moisturizer, or you could be using a product with harsh ingredients in it.top-10-worst-skin-habits

5. Not Washing Off Makeup

If you don’t wash your makeup off every night, it’s sitting on your face for hours clogging your pores. Even natural makeup should be washed off before bed.

6. Using Products with Harmful Ingredients

Ingredients in skin care products should be plant based and gentle.

7. Forgetting Sun Screen

You should use a moisturizer or facial serum with a sunscreen in it, or you should apply a separate lightweight sunscreen when you go out for the day.

8. Not Drinking Enough Water

Staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water leads to healthy and happy skin.

9. Eating a Poor Diet

Eat a plant-based diet that contains mostly whole foods, including a good amount of fruits and vegetables, to promote healthy skin.

10. Touch Your Skin Minimally

Don’t pick at pimples, rub forcefully when applying skin care products, or touch your face during the day if it’s not necessary.

WHY DOES pH MATTER? The Magic Balance of Healthy Skin

December 31, 2020

They say everything in nature is about balance, and that is no less true when it comes to our skin. Achieving the delicate ying and yang of beautiful skin may come down to maintaining the right pH balance. So, what is the magic pH level of healthy skin?  On a scale of 0 to 14, the ideal state is slightly acidic, sitting around 5.

What products we use can also affect the pH level of healthy skin. Have you ever wondered why some cleansers give your skin that squeaky-clean tight feeling? They could be disrupting your skin’s pH level. Choose soap-free cleansers that are pH balanced (not too alkaline or too acidic) that fall within the range of normal, healthy skin.
