You might love the summer season but hate the way your sweat combines with the oils of your skin. Thankfully, there’s a routine you can put to good use to treat your oily skin and enjoy the summer weather without worry. While you’ll need to do more to care for your skin compared to those with dry skin, you have the advantage of having more youthful-looking features and fewer wrinkles and lines.

Go Easy on Your Skin

One of the first things to know about treating oily skin in the summer is that you want to take it easy. This means only washing your face no more than twice a day and doing so with lukewarm water that takes care of dirt and opens up your pores. When it’s time to wash your face, do so with products that contain ingredients like citric acid, salicylic acid and glycolic acid, all of which are great for freeing your skin of dead cells that can lead to breakouts.

If you like to exfoliate your skin, do so no more than two to three times a week. You might dislike your oily skin sometimes, but you need a bit of it to keep you irritation free, naturally moisturized and well-hydrated.

Give Yourself a Solid Foundation

When the weather starts to warm up, substitute a heavy makeup foundation with light moisturizers. We also recommend investing in a quality toner this summer to get rid of excess oil and shrink your pores. You’ll also want to do everything you can to resist touching your face, as doing so can add more dirt, germs and oil from your fingertips to your face. Finally, do yourself a favor and stay away from oily foods, as they can lead to increased oil production on your face.
